Volume 5 - The Isaac Edition
Christmas 2011, 20 pages
After creating a book on Blurb.com for my Master's Degree program, I figured this was a pretty good way to go from now on to continue self-publishing This Korean Life. It saves me the hassle of taking everything to a Korean printer and double-checking to be sure it comes out right. This is the first Blurb book for This Korean Life, but it won't be the last.

Year One: 2010: Growth
New Year, January 4, 2011
I've had a strong desire for quite some time to create a new magazine for my wife and I. The first three were fun to make and quite a challenge for me. However, with so many new changes over the past year, I found I just didn't have the raw materials (like lots of blogs and additional writings), the time (working full-time, going to grad school full-time for design, and a pregnant wife, new house, etc, etc), or the right beginning (I sat down a number of times to write an introductory letter, only to get writer's block right in the middle of it).
Therefore, when I noticed that I could quickly use iPhoto to create a pretty sweet looking book, I jumped at the chance. Since I didn't have much writing for a new magazine, I had considered making only a photo journal of 2010 for quite some time, and Mac made it simple to create and easy to get printed.
That's not to say that I won't create more magazines in the future - I will - as well as cards, books, wallpapers, shirts, and probably other designs. But for now, this book, recapping the year 2010 was the best solution. And since I usually send hundreds of photos to my grandparents each year, to keep them updated, this is a much classier way to let them know what has happened with me. Enjoy the download!

Wedding Newspaper and Newsletter Wedding, December 19, 2009 I made this newspaper and newsletter to inform and entertain our guests at our wedding. A friend of mine suggested them ("and include a crossword puzzle!") so I made them. People generally seemed to like them both a lot, and they both do include a crossword puzzle. The newspaper and newsletter both include stories about love and our honeymoon, including an itinerary and weather forecast. |
Volume 3 - Winter Wedding Magazine (English)December 19 2009, 12 pagesThis magazine was created specifically for our wedding day. It is currently available only in English. |
Volume 2 - Fall Magazine (English) ~ Updated October 2009, 12 pages This magazine is the updated, extended edition of our Fall magazine that was a picture memoir for Sarah and my trip to America. This new version includes two new articles: "Perparing the Perfect Proposal" and "Paul and the H1N1 Virus."
It is available in English and Korean. This is our first attempt at a Korean magazine - Sarah spent all day one Saturday translating it. |

I hope to have a joint Korean/English edition for later versions of the magazine. |
Volume 1 - Summer Magazine (English) July 2009, 20 pages This magazine was begun as a project to introduce my fiance to my family. We took a trip back to the US for about 10 days in July 2009 to visit them. As this was to be the first person-to-person meeting of my family and (then) girlfriend, I thought there would be no better way to introduce them to her than to let them read about her and her family in a magazine. (Plus, I love graphic design and creating things!)
This magazine really serves two purposes: The first being to introduce Sarah and her family to my family, the second is to introduce my life in Korea and satisfaction in Korea to them (mostly so they know that I'm doing well here). Enjoy our first magazine! |
Proposal Wallpaper D-Day 600, August 29, 2009 I made this desktop wallpaper/PowerPoint slide to be projected on the screen in our church sanctuary where I proposed to Sarah. I arranged for help to set up the church with candles and rose petals and soft music in order to set the mood for the proposal.
We were celebrating 600 days of dating that day, although it was actually day 601 or 602 by then, but the timing was perfect. |
